Tips for Styling an Inviting Entryway

Entryways are a first impression of your home. Whether you have a small or large entrance, you can make it feel welcoming by following simple rules that I use for not only my own home, but also my clients.

Today, I’m sharing some tips for styling an inviting entryway. Let’s get started!

1 ) Define The Space

Your entryway should feel distinct from the rest of your house, to make the space inviting from the start. To achieve this, larger furniture that is both functional and stylish should be incorporated. Some good pieces are a console table for good storage, a large area rug for more comfort, a mirror(s) to open up the space, and wall artwork to add color and texture to the space. If you want to read more about mirrors, check out last month’s blog post, 5 Functional Design Hacks for Small Space. Here are some pieces I recommend: Click Here

2 ) Use Layered Lighting

As mentioned in 5 Tips on How to Choose the Perfect Lighting for Every Room, layered lighting means using several different types of lighting for multiple functions to avoid relying on one central fixture. First, establish your central lighting. As an alternative to can lighting, which new construction homes typically come built with, use a larger chandelier or pendant fixture. No matter if you use can lighting or a larger fixture, use table lamps and sconces as your secondary lighting. Here are some of my favorites: Click Here

3) Make it Functional

Your entryway should also have some other purpose than being an entry. Take advantage of areas in the space to use for storage and organization. For instance, add baskets to your console table for an aesthetic storage solution, trays on side tables for keys and other miscellaneous items, and if you have space, a storage bench for shoes and bags. Here are my suggestions: Click Here

4 ) Add Greenery

In last week’s blog post, Our Top 5 Must-Have Decor Accessories to Elevate Any Space, I mentioned the benefits of adding greenery and natural elements. Pieces like fresh flowers, faux stems, and large potted plants create a calming, fresh atmosphere for the space.  Here are some of my favorite pieces involving greenery/natural elements: Click Here

5 ) Scents and Smells

Have you ever walked into a store, hotel, or someone’s home and immediately noticed the space’s amazing smell? The right scent is a way to make your home, especially your entryway, feel more welcoming and cozy. You can even customize the scent of your house for certain seasons or events.

For instance, I use The Hotel Collection Diffuser in my entryway for that fresh, hotel-like smell. Some other affordable alternatives are candles, room sprays, and incense. Trust me, a good fragrance makes a difference. Here are some of my favorite scents and smells: Click Here

And there you have it, 5 tips for styling an inviting entryway. From defining the space to adding good fragrance, creating an entryway space that is welcoming for all is simple.
