What’s the big deal about bedding?
People often forget how important bedding is to their overall space and sleep! There are so many options out there, and today, I’m sharing six things to look out for when shopping for bedding.
- Budget: This is the first thing you should consider, as there is a HUGE range of bedding products for any type of budget. So, when shopping for bedding, make sure to have a clear budget in mind. This will help narrow down choices without compromising your budget. Consider what pieces to invest in, such as the sheets and pillows. Since they touch your skin every night, it would be the best place to splurge, whereas decorative throws and accent pillows can be budget-friendly.
- Quality: Quality directly impacts comfort and longevity. Look for sheets with a high thread count and natural fibers like cotton, bamboo, or linen, which are breathable and soft. A good comforter or duvet insert should provide adequate warmth without being too heavy. You can also opt for a down or down alternative based on allergies and preferences. Paying attention to stitching and how full comforters are to ensure durability and coziness.
- Bed Care: Overall, bedding is an investment, so make sure to look and read the label to ensure you are washing them properly. Certain materials require a gentle cycle or air drying. Also, have a backup pair so that you can rotate bedding in for emergencies, seasonal purposes, and to fluff your pillows and comforter to keep them fresh and evenly worn.
- Consider the Type of Bed: Do you have to buy and splurge on all bedding in your home? No, you don’t! This point is important- make sure you’re considering the function and feel of the room. For example, in your Primary bedroom, you want to go for the higher thread count and higher quality versus a kids’ room, where they may change their bedding over the years. For kids’ bedding, opt for easy-to-clean, machine-washable bedding.
- Textures and Colors: Bedding is very underrated when it comes to the full design and aesthetic of the space. Bedding is where you can add different textures and colors to give your room a contrast, while being a piece that can be easily changed for any reason. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colors to provide a cohesive look to the space.
- Layering Methods: Layering is both functional and stylish. In cooler months, add extra warmth with quilts, throws, and flannel sheets; in warmer weather, strip it back with lighter materials like linen. For pillow styling, you can refer to the visual below. If you still need more throw pillow styling guidance, check out last week’s blog, “An Easy Guide to Styling Throw Pillows for Any Space.”

And there you have it! Prioritizing proper bedding is beneficial for your health, but also a way to elevate a bedroom’s aesthetic. From considering the budget to using the layer method, finding and styling the perfect bedding is easy! Remember: It’s all about finding what is best for you. Use these tips as a guide, and don’t be afraid to experiment until you find the perfect look for your space.
Here is to creating happy spaces,
